The Founding of the church

Isaiah 2:2 – 4

God's house to be founded in the latter days, in Jerusalem (Micah 4:1 – 2, parallel).


Daniel 2:44

The kingdom was to be founded in the time of the 4th world empire, "in the days of those kings" — the Roman era.

Matthew 3:1 – 2

The kingdom is at hand (Mk. 1:15, parallel).

Matthew 6:9 – 10

Disciples were to pray for the coming of the kingdom.

Matthew 16:18 & 19

Christ speaks of His church as being yet future ("I will build my church"). Peter was to be given the keys to the kingdom (the gospel message).

Mark 9:1

The kingdom was to come in the lifetime of some who were then listening to Christ's words

Matthew 18:3

The disciples had not yet entered into the kingdom of heaven.

Luke 10:9

The kingdom had "come near" to those of Jesus' day.

Luke 22:18

The "kingdom of God" was yet to come. Spoken on the night preceding Christ's crucifixion.

Acts 2:41

3,000 added together, into the church.

Acts 2:17 21; Joel 2:28 32

This occurred in the "last days" (the Christian age, the last hope for man) as foretold by the prophet Joel.

Luke 24:46 49; Acts 1:12, 2:1 5

This occurred at Jerusalem, as foretold by the prophet Isaiah (above).

Luke 3:1

This occurred in the days of the Roman Empire, as foretold by Daniel.

Acts 1:221ff

This occurred in the lifetime of those who had heard Jesus speaking.

Acts 2:1 – 4

This came with power (the power of the gospel; Romans 1:16).

Acts 11:15

This period is called "the beginning" — the beginning of the church and the spiritual kingdom of God.

After the 1st PENTECOST

Fear "upon the whole church."

Persecutions prevailed against the church.

Acts 11:22

Tidings were sent to the church.

Acts 13:3, 14:27

The church existed at Antioch.

Ephesians 1:20ff, 5:25

Christ is the head of the church.

Colossians 1:13 & 14

Some had been "translated … into the kingdom of the Son …"

1 Timothy 3:15

The house of God existed then, as now (cf. Isaiah 2:1f).

1 Timothy 6:15

Christ is the King.

Hebrews 12:28

An immovable kingdom has been received.

Revelation 1:9

John was in the kingdom.

Revelation 2 & 3

The churches of Asia.

The church was founded on the 1st Pentecost after the crucifixion of Christ.

The church and the kingdom were founded at the same time, in the same way.
