So Now You Know Will Vann Have you ever said, “But I don’t know what to say to my neighbor, friend, coworker, family member about the church.” Well you do now, so go do it! The Church... The church of Christ (Rom. 16:16) has no official doctrine or creed except the Bible. We believe the Bible to be God’s inspired word (2 Tim. 3:16-17). It is our desire to “speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent.” Concerning Jesus Christ… “The Christ, the Son of the living God” (Mt. 16:16). That He… Concerning Sin “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). “Your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He does not hear” (Isa. 59:2). “The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom. 6:23). Concerning Worship John 4:24 “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” Concerning Women’s Role in Worship First Timothy 2:11-12 “Let a woman quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.” Concerning Leadership of the Church - Elders and Deacons First Timothy 3:1-10 “This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?); not a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil. Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. Likewise deacons must be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for money, holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience. But let these also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons, being found blameless.” |
