Let Your Light So Shine Will Vann Thomas Edison is quoted with saying, “Results? Why, man, I have gotten lots of results! If I find ten thousand ways something won't work, I haven't failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is often a step forward.”This was the man that, through no little effort, invented the light bulb, and made this world shine at night. There are many other examples of folks out there that have overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles and go on to achieve great things for the betterment of our lives, but there was only one who sacrificed so much so that we might have an eternal life. Christ said in Matthew 5:14-16, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Just as Edison brought into this world the incandescent light bulb, Christians are to bring the light of Christ to the world. Like the flipping of a switch causes a light to come on so that a pathway through the dark is made, showing Christ through our lives gives off a far more powerful light that shows the way through the darkness of this world. If people, like Edison, are driven to achieve the awesome in this world, to overcome countless failures in accomplishing their goals, then why would a Christian not work twice as hard to produce a light that saves far more than a stubbed toe in the dark? |
