Why Come to Christ? Will Vann “Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, ‘Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.’ And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, ‘This Man blasphemes!’ But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, ‘Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, 'Arise and walk'? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins’— then He said to the paralytic, ‘Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.’ And he arose and departed to his house” (Mt. 9:2-7). So why do people come to Christ? Some, like the scribes, want to down play who He is and make Him seem as either just a wise teacher like Ghandi or something like Santa Claus, just a figment of our imagination. Others come to Him for what He can do for them, like those that brought the crippled man to be healed. They were looking for the physical to be healed but they got more. This man received what only Christ can offer! We all have a choice to make when it comes to our relationship with Christ. We can be like the Scribes, who want to prove that Christ is not what He truly is so that no one has to worry about following Him. The other choice we have is to come to Him for what He has to offer us. Not just the physical blessings that we have through Him, but much more than that. The forgiveness of our sins that can only come through Him is why He came to us. Now all we have to do is come to Him (Mt. 11:29-30). |
